Curriculum pilot shows initial improvement in project management competencies

The new Project Management curriculum has undergone an initial pilot with five participants representing the intended target group. The pilot aimed to assess the relevance, clarity, usability, and initial learning outcomes of the training materials before their wider implementation by Palestinian partner institutions.

Learning outcomes were assessed through pre- and post-training assessments, complemented by participant feedback collected at the end of the pilot.

The results showed a positive improvement. The average score in the pre-training assessment was 58%, while the average post-training score reached 82%, representing an improvement of 24 percentage points. All five participants improved their results between the two assessments.

Participant feedback was also highly positive. On a five-point scale, the curriculum was rated 4.6/5 for relevance, while the clarity and organisation of the learning materials received 4.4/5 and the practical applicability of the acquired knowledge was rated 4.5/5.

Participants particularly appreciated the practical orientation of the modules and their relevance to development and donor-funded project management.

In addition to providing information about initial learning outcomes, the pilot generated valuable input for further curriculum improvement. Participants highlighted the value of additional practical exercises, locally relevant examples and case studies, and sufficient time to apply project management tools.

These observations informed the refinement and adaptation of the curriculum for use by Palestinian partner institutions.

The results should be considered formative rather than representative, given the small number of participants. The curriculum therefore recommends continued use of pre- and post-training assessments and participant feedback during wider implementation to build a stronger evidence base and support continuous improvement.

The pilot therefore represents an important step in the validation and improvement of the new training resources.
